Arizona – Mexico Border Crossings

San Luis Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take US 95 south and main street south past friendship park to the gatehouse entrance. The aduana for FMM tourist cards and the Banjercito are found just after the Gatehouse crossing and are labeled on Google Maps.

RV Friendly Crossing – Yes, stay in the center lane. There is a canopy but 5th wheels and RV’s cross frequently so height is not an issue.

Where to Park – Friendship park has parking on the US side.

Entering USA

Directions – The crossing is obvious with the road following the border. It’s called Ave Captain Carlos G Calles or Highway 2. Connecting from highway 22 is popular. The TIP return is a little tricky however and must be done before you jump in the border crossing line. Don’t skip this step as you will want the deposit returned. It’s near the customs and immigration area on the Mexico side.

RV Friendly Options – RV’s can cross here

San Luis II Commercial Only Crossing

This is a commercial only crossing with traffic going north into the United States. Use the regular San Luis crossing a few miles to the east for regular traffic. They built this to alleviate wait times but the times can still be long as the regular crossing is popular

Lukeville – Sonoyta Border Crossing

This crossing is excellent for reaching Puerto Penasco. It’s a straight shot on highway 8 in Mexico. Generally considered a friendly place to cross.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take Highway 85 directly south to reach the Lukeville crossing into Sonoyta, Mexico. FMM available at the border. You can also do the TIP 17 km south at Pitiquito on Highway 2.

RV Friendly Crossing – Yes and it’s popular for all size RV’s, many of which are driving to Puerto Penasco. The Gringo Pass Motel and RV Park is a great place to hold over for the night before or after crossing as well. From the motel, you can walk to the aduana for your FMM or do this at the crossing. It’s nice to complete ahead of time when traveling in an RV.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 4 am – 8 pm Monday through Saturday and 6 am to 8 am Sunday.

Where to Park – No need. Do everything at the border.

Entering USA

Directions – Stop to return your TIP if necessary at Pitiquito. It’s just before Caborca. The crossing is on Highway 8 and the signs are obvious.

RV Friendly Option – Yes

Sasabe – El Sasabe Border Crossing

This is a very rural crossing and most people choose the more developed Nogales-Mariposa Border crossing.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – From the small town of Sasabe, go south on 286 to the border. Aduana is on the right just after crossing. There is no Banjercito here. You can find one to the south on Highway 15 south of the Nogales crossing.

RV Friendly Crossing – We don’t have any RV reports for this crossing. It’s a long dirt road and most RV’s elect to cross just to the east at Nogales.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 8 am to 8 pm Fri and Sun and 8 am to 6 pm otherwise.

Where to Park – It’s small and you can drive right into the crossing.

Entering USA

Directions – Sasabe is south of the border and there is only one primary road north to the border.

Nogales – Mariposa Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – From Tucson, drive south on I-19. Take the right on 189 (exit 4 Mariposa Rd) to the border crossing. Southbound traffic is frequently waved through and there is no Banjercito or Audiana immediately at the border. Continue south 21 KM to complete all FMM and visa paperwork.

RV Friendly Crossing – This is very popular for RVs and it has great height clearance and space to pass through. The Aduana and Banjercito 21 KM to the south also has plenty of space to park and handle everything.

Crossing Times and Traffic: 6 am – 10 pm everyday

Where to Park – No need to park as you won’t do paperwork at the actual border crossing.

Entering USA

Directions – Visit the same area at KM 21 when going north to return your TIP permit. You will not receive your refund on the deposit and will not legally check your vehicle out of Mexico without completing this process. Keep your printed receipt safe after returning the TIP at the booth.

RV Friendly Options – Plenty of space for RV’s on the northern crossing as well.

Naco Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take the Naco Highway South to the border crossing. It’s a small town and the border is very easy to find. The Banjercito is supposedly open 24/7 here as well so you can get a TIP or cancel one. There are however reports that it’s only open Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon.

RV Friendly Crossing – You can drive across in an RV and the Bisbee RV Park at Turquoise Valley is just a few blocks before the crossing if you need an easy place to stay.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 6 am – 10 pm, everyday

Entering USA

Directions – Simply the inverse as crossing from the USA into Mexico. It’s small and generally low traffic. Take highway 2 north directly to the border crossing. You can turn in your TIP at the Banjercito before crossing back over.

RV Friendly Options – Yep! And it’s a mellow place with an RV park available right after crossing back over.

Douglas – Agua Prieta Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take Pan American Ave south through Douglas to the border crossing. Banjercito is open 24/7 as well so it’s convenient for early or late crossings when you need a TIP. You will pass through the inspection point and take a right at the Yellow Gates to enter the Aduana/Banjercito office location. After crossing, follow the curve on C1 to Ave 6 south.

RV Friendly Crossing – Plenty of room at this crossing for RV’s and you will find Mexico RV groups and experienced travelers recommending this crossing to go south. On occasion, they will not open the bus gates however.

Where to Park – Park to the right at the yellow gates and enter the office to get your TIP and FMM permit.

Entering USA

Directions – Road C International parallels the border and is the entry road to cross from Mexico into the USA. Driving Ave 6 north works unless the border is very busy. At this point you must use a street farther to the east.

RV Friendly Options – Less space to navigate on re-entry but RV’s do use this crossing.

California – Mexico Border Crossings

San Ysidro Border Crossing

This is the busiest border crossing of them all but it remains pretty straightforward. You do not need a TIP for Baja but can get one here if you plan on driving the mainland. Rosarito and Ensenada are easy driving distances so you don’t need to stay in Tijuana after crossing. The tricky part about this crossing is getting your FMM Visa because they wave through cars rapidly and it’s easy to breeze on through without locating and stopping at the office.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take highway 5 or 805 south and they will merge together, funneling you into the Mexico entry. If you already have the FMM and passport stamp, follow the green light – red light system and cruise through to Mexico. 

RV Friendly Crossing – Stay in the right hand lane labeled “something to declare” for big rigs. You might have a quick inspection and you can stay parked to grab an FMM if you haven’t already.

Where to Park: Park on the US side at one of the paid lots and walk across to get your FMM stamped. The alternative is to use the declaration line, park and get your FMM and passport stamp at the office. Visit the Banjercito if you need a TIP for your rig or watercraft.

Entering USA

Make sure to visit the Banjercito if you have a TIP and need to return the document. Do this before crossing the border. The Banjercito location is closer to downtown Tijuana. The Otay Mesa crossing has one right at the border so consider that crossing for TIP return as well.

To reach the border, drive Via Internacional along the border wall until you reach the crossing or consider Calle Segunda to reach the crossing point.

Otay Mesa – Tijuana

Located just to the east of San Ysidro, this crossing has less traffic but also has a less direct route to the coast. It’s ideal for reaching the airport or exploring Tijuana. If the wait times are excessive at San Ysidro, this also offers a nice alternative. 

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Highway 905 parallels the border from San Ysidro and goes right to the crossing. Highway 125 south also connects as does 11 from the east. 

RV Friendly Crossing – This is a commercial crossing and it has room for big rigs. You should still park on the US side and do your TIP and FMM paperwork before crossing over. It’s easier to navigate these offices on foot and drive straight through with everything in order.

Where to Park – Several parking lots are available on the US side of the border. There is also a popular walking crossing and many users leave their cars on the US side.

Entering USA

Directions – It’s a good entry to use for time savings. BLVD Garita de Otay leads you to the regular crossing lanes and BLVD de las Bellas Artes leads to the Ready Lanes (have your passport ready).

RV’s Crossing Otay Mesa – Use the same process to cross back over in an RV.

Parking – No need to park because you can go directly to the banjercito office on Avenida Segunda before crossing back over or you can enter the crossing directly with your passport ready.

Tecate Border Crossing Instructions

A much smaller border crossing, Tecate is mellow and it’s a nice place for tourists and first timers especially. The entry point is nice for visiting Baja and it shoots you directly into the Valle de Guadalupe wine country. You can take this through to Ensenada or take the 2D toll road to reach Highway 5 south. The 2D is a winding mountain pass with wonderful views but it can see weather, even snow and big rigs should be prepared for switchbacks.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – It’s easy to reach with a single road – Highway 188, leading straight into the border. The drive from San Diego is pleasant and scenic as is the road from the east. When you reach the last gas pump and money exchanges, it means the border crossing is the next step. Jamul has a nice RV park close to the border as well.

RV Friendly Crossing – You can cross in both directions with an RV or camping trailer. Double check the height requirement for very large rigs. They do have a commercial truck entry but we do not know if RV’s are allowed through. Park before the border and get your FMM before crossing. You will have a hard time parking a big rig on the Mexico side. 

Crossing Times and Traffic: 6 am to 10 pm

Where to Park – There are several very obvious paid parking lots on the US side of the border. You can actually make this crossing and park on the Mexican side as well. I frequently cross over, park, then walk back through to the Aduana. When you drive across, the Aduana is easy to find on your right side. The left side is for anything to declare.

Entering USA

Directions – Take the road paralleling the border from the east. It runs right along the border wall.

RV Friendly – Yes, you can cross over in an RV. 

Parking – No need to park. Visit the banjercito/aduana office to return your TIP before crossing if needed.

Mexicali – Calexico West

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take Cesar Chavez Blvd and stay right at the Nuevo Acceso a Mexico. 

RV Friendly Crossing – You can cross here in an RV but it can be fairly tight.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 24/7

Where to Park – Park in the aduana area to get your TIP and FMM. It can be difficult to find here.

Entering USA

Directions – This is a tricky crossing in terms of directions from Calexico. It likes to funnel folks into the Sentri lane and this should be avoided for those without a pass. Use Google maps for this one and it will take you directly into the border line. Follow the border fence on Cristobal Colon Road until you reach the check stations. As of right now, there is no Banjercito at this crossing. Go to the east crossing to return a TIP.

RV Friendly Options – There is a lane on the far right for trucks and RVs.

Calexico East Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – From Calexico, CA, take highway 7 south and stay right, following the signs to the south. The Aduana is on the right side after you cross back over.

RV Friendly Crossing – Not sure about the space available for an RV

Crossing Times: 6 am to 2 pm

Entering USA

Directions – Google maps is accurate on this one and it’s worth studying the directions before going north. Stay to the right in Mexicali when the road splits by following the signs for highway 2 Tijuana. The right side stays above ground and the left drops down. From here, follow the map’s instructions through several turns until you reach Calle Novena and pass the commercial entrance. Follow the Camiones/Autos sign for regular crossing and the Sentri sign if you have the pass.

RV Friendly Options – Follow the same instructions and use the regular Camiones/Autos lines then stay right for the Camiones. Like any crossing, you might get right through or be sent to secondary for further inspection. 

Parking – You will find a lot on the right, directly across from the Banjercito. This is convenient for TIP returns.

Andrade (Los Algodones) Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

This crossing is very popular for dental tourism and the walking line is especially well used. You can walk into Mexico without any checks but will need to show all documentation on returning into the USA. Driving across is also very straightforward. It can be done in an RV but the roads are narrow and winding, especially on the return trip.

Getting There – You will drive directly south on Algodones Road and funnel into the border crossing. Parking is abundant before the border so it’s easy to park and walk to the aduana for your FMM and passport stamp. 

RV Friendly Crossing – Vans and Class C but big rigs will have a harder time. It can be done but prepare to navigate some potholes and narrow roads.

Crossing Times and Traffic: 6 am to 10 pm

Where to Park – Numerous parking lots on the USA side. Some native owned that are secure and reasonable.

Entering USA

Directions – Take Avenue B to Calle 2 north to catch the border line. Wait times vary and can range from very long to short. 

RV Friendly Options – We have reports of trailers up to 25’ crossing here but with very little room. 

Parking – No need to park and walk across. You will funnel right into line where US Customs checks your documentation.

New Mexico – Mexico Border Crossings

Antelope Wells Border Crossing

This border crossing is extremely small without any real town on the US side. The road is generally in poor shape, making it a low traffic, unpopular crossing point in general.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take highway 181 South to the crossing. The town is basically just border agents. No Banjercito office here so plan on finding one elsewhere or use a different crossing.

RV Friendly Crossing – We don’t have any reports of RV’s using this crossing. Bad roads can make this a challenge however.

Crossing Times and Traffic: 10 am to 4 pm 7 days a week

Where to Park – No need to park here. Just park at the border crossing for inspection if necessary.

Entering USA

Directions – El Berrendo is the village here and like on the USA side, it is very small with no services to speak of.

RV Friendly Options – Again, rough roads and the remote nature of this crossing make it difficult to assess for RVs.

Columbus – Puerto Palomas Border Crossing

This can be a good crossing option as it has a Banjercito for a tip, reasonable hours and can handle a variety of vehicles, RV’s and trailers. It tends to have low wait times as well which is really nice.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Highway 9 runs east to west in parallel to the border but you still need to catch Highway 11 South from Columbus. Banjercito is on the right after crossing to the Mexican side.

RV Friendly Crossing – Yes, this border can accommodate bigger rigs and is used by RV’s.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 24/7 but the Banjercito is only open from 8 am to 12 pm. Mexico to the USA hours are also limited.

Where to Park – There is a duty free store and a parking lot just before the crossing on the right.

Entering USA

Directions – Take Ave 5 de Mayo to the north and stay right (follow the signs) to funnel into the USA line.

RV Friendly Options – You can cross back into Mexico in an RV here as well.

Santa Teresa – San Jerónimo Border Crossing

West of El Paso, this offers a lower traffic border crossing option to get across without the traffic and driving required to pass through the high population density areas.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Google maps will get you there. Many folks come from El Paso and you should gas up before leaving town. The Love’s Travel stop is a good place to prepare for the crossing on Highway 136 south. The same highway leads to the Mexico border crossing lane.

RV Friendly Crossing – Great option for RV’s and you get to skip the chaos of El Paso and Juarez.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 6 am to 12 am, 7 days per week

Where to Park – Park in the Autodeclaracion at the border and enter the offices for your TIP and FMM permit.

Entering USA

Directions – Take Highway 2 north to cross back over. We don’t have current reports about the best location to return a TIP. You may have to park on the Mexican side and walk to the Banjercito. There’s a Banjercito in Ciudad Juarez and another one south-east of Ciudad Juarez on Highway 2 but you can also return your TIP at the banjercito located at this crossing.

RV Friendly Options – You can cross back over here in an RV. Make sure you turn in the TIP before making the journey across.

Texas – Mexico Border Crossings

Amistad Dam Border Crossing

There is a very large reservoir at this crossing on the Rio Grande.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take state loop 239 South and cross the bridge. It will force you right and the customs building is on the left.

RV Friendly Crossing – We are unsure about the RV accessibility. The crossing is reported as having some issues with space.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 6 am to Midnight

Where to Park – Park at the customs building after passing inspection.

Entering USA

Directions – Make sure you have change in pesos. Pull in to park before the bridge toll station and enter the white building (Aduana) to cancel your TIP. Also, keep some pesos to pay the toll. Cross the bridge and enter the USA.

RV Friendly Options – No current reports on size and accessibility for big rigs.

Anzalduas International Bridge Border Crossing

Good route to get between McAllen to Reynosa without driving through the city.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Highway 396 south leads to the bridge crossing. Bring money for tolls to cross the bridge in either direction. With 5 south lanes, this bridge is often rather quick for getting across. It does appear there is no Aduana at the crossing however.

RV Friendly Crossing – No information for RV’s here. With the many lanes leading south however, it may be a good option.

Directions – Drive Highway 40 north and follow the signs for the bridge exit. Prepare to pay the toll after returning your TIP then cross the bridge and have your documentation ready for US customs.

RV Friendly Options – No information for this crossing

Brownsville – Gateway Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take International Blvd to the Gateway International Bridge System and proceed across the border. Have money ready for the toll. The Matamoros Aduana is located on your right after crossing the river.

RV Friendly Crossing – The Veterans bridge has more space to park.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 6 am to 12 am

Entering USA

Directions – Av Alvaro Obregon will take you back across the bridge

RV Friendly Options – Veterans is the better option for the big rigs

Brownsville – Veterans – Los Tomates Port of Entry

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Stop and pay the toll on your way south on Route 83 off the 69E. The road turns to 5 de Mayo in Mexico and the Aduana and Banjercito are in the building on your left.

RV Friendly Crossing – This is a good option with space to park and visit the aduana and banjercito.

Where to Park – Pull over to the left when you reach the banjercito

Entering USA

Directions – Stop at the small Banjercito office when leaving Matamoros. It’s located before the bridge crossing on the left side so don’t cross over.

RV Friendly Options – Good option for crossing back over as well.

Colombia Solidarity Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Pay the toll ($3.50) on 225 south to enter the bridge crossing. Stop at the Aduana to complete the crossing.

On HWY 35, prior to turning off to Colombia, there are several motels in Cotulla, Texas and a few restaurants. Pearsall has more choices for motels and restaurants.

You cross the bridge at the border and immediately are Aduana/Customs and Banjercito building. They are on the right, with a small parking lot in front. Enter the building, and on the right is where you will obtain your FMM tourist card. You require your FMM before your car permit.

Photocopies are available in the center of the building. To the left, as you enter, is where you will find Banjercito for your TIP (car permit). It is best to have copies and keep one in your vehicle. The deposit for your permit is $400 for 2007 and newer vehicles, $300 for 2001 to 2006 vehicles and $200 for older vehicles. Your deposit may be paid for with cash or credit card.

After you have completed your FMM and TIP, you will drive your car to the inspection area. You may be asked to open the car doors and trunk. Dogs should be on a leash and removed from your vehicle. If you have GPS, please set it to your destination.

As you leave the inspection area, HWY 1 will lead you to HWY 2. This will bypass Nuevo Laredo. When you reach HWY 85D, that is a toll road to Monterrey. Toll roads have a “D” after the HWY number. If your destination is San Miguel, Queretaro, Mexico City, etc., you will find major signage that says MEXICO -meaning Mexico City.

If your destination is San Miguel, about 2 hours after SLP, turn off HWY 57D to Los Rodriguez. Or, for San Miguel, you may exit HWY 57D sooner at HWY 110 and bypass Dolores Hidalgo to the east and then HWY 51 to SMA.

RV Friendly Crossing – This is a good, low traffic option for RV’s and campers. Much better than the busy crossing right in Laredo.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 8 am to Midnight

Directions – Drive highway 1 north into the crossing and stop at the Banjercito booth to cancel your TIP.

RV Friendly Options – RV’s can cross here.

Parking – There is a big secure parking area if needed but you can drive up to the Banjercito booth to cancel your TIP.

Del Rio Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take state loop 239 South and cross the bridge. It will force you right and the customs building is on the left.

RV Friendly Crossing – We are unsure about the RV accessibility. The crossing is reported as having some issues with space.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 6 am to Midnight

Where to Park – Park at the customs building after passing inspection.

Entering USA

Getting There – S FM 493 is the road south but it intersects off 281 to the border. There is parking just before the bridge crossing and the customs building is after the bridge on your left.

RV Friendly Crossing – No RV reports for this crossing.

Where to Park – There is a lot on the US side if needed but you can park at the aduana as well.

Directions – Drive north on Acceso al Puente Internacional Rio Bravo-Donna

Eagle Pass – Piedras Negras Border Crossing

This is a lower traffic crossing that is generally pretty easy and not overly chaotic.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – From the town of Eagle Pass, take 57 South to reach the crossing. You will go over one of two bridges.Both are good options really. Keep a few bucks ready to pay the toll. I believe it currently costs $3 for passenger cars. Bridge 1 does have limited hours while bridge 2 is 24/7. After passing the inspection zone and entering Mexico, you can get your TIP and FMM on the second floor of the Aduana after bridge 1 or at the immigration office just after crossing bridge 2. You can also continue driving south to Allende (less than an hour south) and stop at the white immigration building for the documents. 

RV Friendly Crossing – Great option for crossing the Mexico border in an RV. Can handle big rigs and the traffic is reasonable.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 24/7 and Banjercito is 24/7

Entering USA

Directions – Take 57 north through Piedras Negras and follow the signs for the US border. It will make a right curve then shoot directly north to the USA.

RV Friendly Options – Good option for folks in RV’s or pulling trailers.

Obtain your tFMM tourist card first and then your Temporary Import Permit (TIP) for your vehicle.

There is a complex of buildings next to Bridge 2 at Piedras Negras.

El Paso Street – Stanton Street Bridges (PDN)(northbound sentri only)

There are three city crossings and this is the western one also known as Paso Del Norte.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – There’s a Duty Free Station you will pass on Stanton Street South then you hit the border crossing by crossing the Stanton Street Bridge. After crossing, you are in the old city center with some good options for lodging and food. Keep in mind, this is a Toll road and you should have cash to pay the fee.

RV Friendly Crossing – Better options available

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 24/7

Where to Park – Do not park at the border. You can complete all paperwork for FMM and TIP after crossing. Stop at the Mexican Customs Control Station on Highway 45 South. It’s 10km south of where Highway 2 (east/west libre road) intersects with Highway 45. When you go northbound, follow the signs for Cancelar Documentos to return your TIP.

Entering USA

Directions – Drive the south El Paso Street bridge to cross back into the USA. Unlike the southbound crossing which is often quick, you can have long wait times going north here.

RV Friendly Options – There are better options with less traffic outside of the city.

Parking – If you need parking, there is a secure public parking lot that is open 24/7 just to the west of the actual crossing.

El Paso – Bota (Bridge of the Americas) Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Heavy traffic crossing that is relatively fast going into Mexico most days but can get backed up. Stay in the passenger lanes and choose the Nada Declaracion to skip the declaration (unless you have taxable possessions). You may have inspections but they are often quick. There are plenty of signs showing the way south and the I-110 goes straight to the border. Use Google Maps because you can connect a number of different ways depending on your location in the city.

RV Friendly Crossing – People do cross here in RV’s. The TIP and FMM station south of the city also has room for RV’s to stop and do the paperwork.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 24/7

Where to Park – Don’t stop and park unless you have a specific reason. Turn in your TIP at the customs station to the south.

Entering USA

Directions – Expect traffic and delays. It’s a good idea to fill your gas tank before entering the border zone. They have signs designating where to enter the border and things can change based on how far backed up the line goes. Ave Lincoln and Av Tecnologico are where you typically jump into line here. 

RV Friendly Options – You can cross back over here but there are lower traffic crossings to consider.

Parking – Do not park at the border. You can complete all paperwork for FMM and TIP after crossing. Stop at the Mexican Customs Control Station on Highway 45 South. It’s 10km south of where Highway 2 (east/west libre road) intersects with Highway 45.

El Paso – Ysleta Border Crossing

Also known as the Zaragoza Toll Bridge. It’s a central connection between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez.

RV Friendly Options – Smaller rigs can cross here but it’s not ideal for the bigger motorhomes. Camper vans and normal trucks are fine but the Class C and bigger rigs will benefit from a bigger crossing.

Falcon Dam Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Drive the 209B across the dam. This is generally low traffic and is not a very large crossing. There is a Banjercito on your left before the Nueva Ciudad Guerrero

RV Friendly Crossing – We do not have reports but it is common for fishermen to tow boats across the river.

Directions – Follow the 2098 Spur road back across the dam. Turn in your TIP at the Banjercito before crossing over.

Fort Hancock – El Porvenir Border Crossing

Getting There – Take the 20 to Farm Rd 1088 and go straight south into the border crossing.

Where to Park – There is an Aduana on the left when you head south, just after crossing the border.

Directions – From El Porvenir, take Highway 2 west and follow signs to the border crossing over the bridge.

Laredo – Nuevo Laredo – Juarez Bridge 2 Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Once you cross over the international bridge from Laredo into Nuevo Laredo you need to follow the one way street and then return under the international bridge. The building for FMM tourist cards and vehicle Temporary Import Permit (TIP) is called CIITEV and it is on Avenida Luis Donaldo Colosio.

RV Friendly Crossing – You will have an easier time crossing at the Laredo Columbia Solidarity Bridge.

Where to Park – Don’t park until you reach the immigration office area.

Los Ebanos Ferry Crossing Between Mexico – USA

This historical crossing point is actually a small, hand operated ferry system.

Getting There – Los Ebanos, TX is a small town and it’s easy to find the crossing. Take Jose Gracia Street to Flores Street. Some people visit simply to watch the ferry. Keep in mind, if you go far enough to see the ferry, you will need a passport to return through US Customs.

RV Friendly Crossing – No, the ferry can take 3 cars across with a few passengers as well.

Directions – From the town of Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, take Adolfo Lopez Mateos to the border crossing.

McAllen – Hidalgo International Bridge Border Crossing

Getting There – Take South International BLVD through the checkpoint and pay the toll station. Continue Across the Bridge and to the Aduana which is the first place you will cross after crossing the river.

RV Friendly Crossing – No information currently.

Where to Park – Park at the aduana. If you miss it, take two rights to find a parking lot where you can park and walk to the buildings.

Directions – Drive Luis Echeverria until it splits for the bridge. The Banjercito to return your TIP is just after the split in the long building. Proceed across the bridge with cash for the toll and your papers to enter the USA

Pharr – Reynosa International Bridge Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – From the town of Pharr, drive south on Highway 281. There is some distance between the US Customs office and the Mexico customs office. Continue south over the bridge and stay right at the split but select the left lane. The Aduana will be on the left with parking.

RV Friendly Crossing – No current info but it looks reasonable for camper vans and smaller rigs at least.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 6 am to 12 am

Where to Park – Park at the aduana after crossing the bridge.

Entering USA

Directions – Ave Puente Pharr going north is the only route to this bridge. Don’t forget to turn in your tip at the border.

RV Friendly Options – No reports here yet

Parking – Looks like there is a big dirt lot just before leaving the Mexico side. We aren’t sure if you park here or not to return the TIP however.

Presidio – Ojinaga Border Crossing

Very much a locals crossing as it does not lead directly to any major destinations. Low key and a nice place to cross overall.

Getting There – Drive on Highway 67 South through Presidio to the border crossing. Aduana and Banjercito are located at the border as well.

RV Friendly Crossing – No reports on bigger RV’s but passenger vehicles do cross here and camper vans and trucks will be fine.

Directions – Take Libre Comercio from Fronteriza to the international bridge. Return your TIP at the white Aduana building.

RV Friendly Options – Again, no reports for this crossing. As with many, it might take longer crossing back into the USA.

Progreso Border Crossing

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Drive the S International Blvd to cross the Progreso International Bridge. Aduana location will be on your right side

RV Friendly Crossing – Currently no information.

Where to Park – Parking is available at the Aduana location.

Entering USA

Directions – Stay in the left lane to pay the toll fee ($3). Park at the Aduana and Banjercito facility to get your TIP and

RV Friendly Options – No reports for RVs.

Parking – Available at the white building on your left. 

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Take highway 181 South to the crossing. The town is basically just border agents. No Banjercito office here so plan on finding one elsewhere or use a different crossing.

RV Friendly Crossing – We don’t have any reports of RV’s using this crossing. Bad roads can make this a challenge however.

Crossing Times and Traffic: 10 am to 4 pm 7 days a week

Where to Park – No need to park here. Just park at the border crossing for inspection if necessary.

Entering USA

Directions – El Berrendo is the village here and like on the USA side, it is very small with no services to speak of.

RV Friendly Options – Again, rough roads and the remote nature of this crossing make it difficult to assess for RVs.

Roma – Ciudad Miguel Aleman Border Crossing

Getting There – From Roma, TX, drive Bravo BLVD to cross the Starr County International Bridge. After crossing, stay right at the fork and park to enter the aduana and banjercito buildings.

RV Friendly Crossing – We do not have reports for RV’s at the Roma crossing. It does look like a reasonable place to cross however.

Where to Park – Parking is available at the aduana and banjercito crossing location.

Entering USA

Directions – Take Hidalgo north to cross the bridge back into the USA. Stop at the Banjercito before crossing the covered structure leading into the bridge.

RV Friendly Options – We do not have reports for RV’s in this section.

Starr Camargo Bridge – Rio Grande City Border Crossing

Located just outside of Rio Grand City, the bridge takes you south towards Ciudad Camargo.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – Pete Diaz Ave passes an outlet mall area just before reaching the border crossing. The Aduana is located across the river on the Mexico side.

RV Friendly Crossing – No reports for RV’s here yet but the crossing does have significant big rig activity and looks like a good option.

Crossing Times and Traffic: Open 7 am to Midnight

Where to Park – It appears there are several parking areas right before the border. One is filled with semi-trucks and the other at the border facility, adjacent to the separate mental health building.

Entering USA

Directions – Take the Carrera El Puente, also labeled as Ensenada from Ciudad Camargo north to the bridge crossing. The Aduana facility is located a few km’s before reaching the actual bridge.

RV Friendly Options – Potential for a good crossing point here but we have not confirmed this yet.

Tornillo – Guadalupe Border Crossing

Located Southeast of the El Paso and Juarez chaos, this crossing has several local names including Puente La Caseta.

Entering Mexico

Getting There – The Tornillo Guadalupe Rd leads to the Tornillo-Guadalupe Bridge where you will cross to Mexico. After crossing and curving to the right, there is a Banjercito and Aduana for a TIP and FMM.

RV Friendly Crossing – We don’t have any RV reports for this crossing. It’s a passenger car crossing so

Where to Park – Go through the border and park at the building for the Aduana and TIP after the crossing. 

Entering USA

Directions – Go back north over the bridge to reach USA customs on the lower island. 

RV Friendly Options – We will update this with reports in the near future.

Parking – Turn in your TIP at the Banjercito before entering the crossing. Beyond that, you will simply cross over and show your entry identification and paperwork to enter the US.
